Jollies Records is thrilled to announce the release of MP3, the latest album by Matthew Pepitone, co-founder of Pearsoll Peak. This new work, a captivating successor to MP2, ushers in a lush world of ambient soundscapes, resonating with the fluidity and rich textures of untamed terrain.

Crafted meticulously over nine months, MP3 was built with Pepitone layering an array of found sounds, samples, and modular synthesis. These range from personal iPhone field recordings to ambient noises sourced from random YouTube videos and vintage sound effect cassettes. The result is a soundscape that feels shifting and organic, as if directly drawn from nature’s own palette.

Adding to the album’s depth, Pepitone employed 500-Series processors to subtly enhance each track, imbuing the compositions with a sense of movement and life. During his recovery from minor foot surgery, he revisited and re-recorded the tracks, layering small doses of EQ, effects, compression, and saturation in real time. Inspired by Alvin Lucier’s “I am Sitting in a Room,” this meditative process allowed the sounds to evolve naturally, resulting in an auditory experience that is both gently weathered and beautifully polished.

“The process was almost meditative,” Pepitone explains. “Re-recording the songs while adjusting and fine-tuning the sound was something I could manage without leaving my bed.” The result is an album that feels deeply personal yet expansive—like observing a vast, untouched wilderness from afar, feeling the atmosphere and currents of sound swirl around you.

MP3 guides listeners on an enchanting journey through soundscapes that mirror the flowing essence of nature and the peaceful, recurring patterns of the world.
